    Notation tips
    • SAN/PGN: e4, Nf3, O-O, Qxd5+, c8=Q#.
    • Standard numbering pairs both sides on one turn: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6. After Black’s reply, the next N. (with the space) is typed for you so White can enter the move straight away. When the CPU plays White, a trailing space is left after its move so you can type Black’s SAN immediately.
    • Also accepted: numbered half-moves (1. e4 2. e5 3. Nf3), repeated turn numbers (1. e4 1. e5), or Black dots (1... e5).
    • Legacy coordinates: Pf2f4, Nb8c6.
    • Captures show beside the board with a running material score.
    • Notation pause clock: typing pauses the timer; typing a move number (1., 2., 1...) presses the clock for the side to move. Edit freely until then.
    • Live clock: follows each completed move and keeps running while you type.
    • Flip the board for couch co-op without turning the device.
    • Share copies a link with the current notation encoded in the URL hash. Opening that link loads the game from the start and autoplays to the end.
    • Play controls under the board step through or autoplay the game; pieces slide into place (also during live notation updates).
    • CPU player (off by default): toss a coin for White, then enter your moves in notation — Stockfish replies automatically. Strength uses Stockfish skill / Elo limits from beginner through full engine. Pace (on by default) makes the CPU take about your average think time so the clocks stay even; turn it off for instant replies at the chosen strength.
